In the spirit of National Tuberculosis Day being last week, talk about someone who was responsible for saving thousands of lives due to an extensive life commitment to tuberculosis.

Alan L. Hart was a physician who is well known for starting the use of x-ray photography in tuberculosis detection. He also put many TB screening programs into practice.

He was also well known for being a fiction author, having published 9 short stories and 4 novels.

But perhaps the thing he is most well known for is being one of the first transgender men to ever have a hysterectomy. This was all the way back in 1917.

Growing up he was mostly free to express himself as a boy, but he faced many issues in his adult life as a transgender man.

His story is a fascinating one and we implore you to read this page in its entirety: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trailblazing-transgender-doctor-saved-countless-lives/
