Panel discussion: Racism in Maine schools

“There isn’t racism in Maine.”


“It doesn’t happen here.”


“You guys are just being divisive.”


We need to do a much better job LISTENING to the lived experiences of our neighbors of color.


In Summer 2020, the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine hosted an emotional, compelling, invaluable panel discussion featuring four former Maine public school students sharing their stories of growing up as students of color in Maine. They represent many parts of the state, including ours. (The panel focuses on schools and education, but the takeaways are fully relevant to all aspects of our community).
